156. Return of Sheng Long

Misogi's drop

Description

I've always loved that move of Shin Akuma's (Super Akuma, if you will) called 'Misogi' where Akuma falls from above and chops right through his opponent. The way Capcom structured his body movement is superb in that particular move, and it's always caught my eye as being particularly cool. Do note that I've drawn regular Akuma, not Shin Akuma. I prefer his red hair.

Anyway, this dark picture of Akuma was surprisingly rushed even for me. Well, not so much rushed, but lacking refinements. The sketchy strokes work well, especially with his muscular face so I chose not to tweak it further. I think it also adds to whole effect of the move. Have a look at a close up screenshot.

And finally, I only descovered today that Akuma was a product of the whole 'Sheng Long' quote from Street Fighter 2. If you're a Street Fighter geek and don't know about this I suggest you read up on it over at Wikipedia.
